The Area

Sintra

No words can adequately describe this fascinating and seductive corner of Portugal. Referred to as “Beautiful Eden”, by Lord Byron in the 19th Century, Sintra is now classified as a World Heritage Site.

Consisting of a huge rocky outcrop that was thrust up from the earth’s crust millions of years ago, the Serra da Sintra is approximately 10 kilometers long and rises dramatically between Mafra to the North and The Lisbon Coast to the South. It projects into the Atlantic Ocean forming the most Westerly point in Europe, “Cabo da Roca”.

Throughout the centuries, this magical terrain has been home to Royal and Noble families and is littered with grand palaces and castles for all to see. The Old Town of Sintra is constructed in the medieval style, with narrow streets and winding steps leading to numerous restaurants, cafes and bars that attract tourists all year round.

Estoril Coast

Mild winters and “not too hot” summers provide an idyllic holiday venue with the calm waters of the Tejo Estuary for swimming & water sports. Easy and inexpensive access to Lisbon offers the opportunity to take in the legendary nightlife in this vibrant City.

The resort of Estoril boasts the largest casino in Europe and is widely regarded as a chic international venue with splendid beaches, an International Motor Racing Circuit and a wide range of facilities to satisfy the most demanding tourist.

The neighbouring town of Cascais began life as a humble fishing village and has become a byword for sophisticated living with a splendid Marina, several international standard golf courses, superb equestrian facilities and a wide range of sporting activities to include sailing, scuba diving and wind-surfing.

Lisbon

Located on the north bank of the river Tagus, Lisbon presents us with an exciting and modern city, but at the same time retaining its historical character. Nightlife and shopping in Lisbon are equal to the best to be found in any major European city.
